The Wise Man

The times we live in are very dangerous and we need to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves to navigate the murky waters of the world on a daily basis. So many people face disappointments on a daily basis because of wrong decisions and judgments and ‘the best of talents’ are cut down by wrong decisions and judgments. Something is grossly wrong! When Our Lord Jesus Christ said we should be wise He was pointing out to us that we will be operating in a world that is overrun by evil; we cannot operate like them but must be wiser on a daily basis than them. Thus the wisdom from above is: “…first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.” – James 3:17. This we must crave to operate successfully in this world. Wisdom of God does not come on a person because of his age, race, creed, education or his vast experience. All these are recipes of the worldly wisdom which the Bible tells us in James 3:13-16 is earthly, sensual and demonic. As the world relies on such, the world sinks deeper and deeper into the murky waters of evil. Ecclesiastes 8:1a asks an important question: “Who is like the wise person, and who knows the interpretation of a matter?” Several ‘wise men’ concerning relationships, family, economics, politics etc have propounded such theories that one would wonder if the world would not have been better without their ‘words of wisdom’. Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 7:24a “therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man…” It then follows that a wise man is a man that hears, keeps and acts on the word of God. However, this wisdom does not come on a man because he is old, young, rich or talented but on any one that is born again and ASKS for it: “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.” – James 1:5. Friend, so many things are happening in and around us that defy rational explanation; the psychological experts are unable to proffer long lasting solutions to them. However, IN God lies all the answers, all we need to do is go into Him to find them! The scriptures makes it clear in Colossians 2:3 that in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. They are not in some well sounding and well-contrived arguments or philosophies but in Him. It then follows that to get it one must be in Him. A man that conscientiously does this has a bright countenance and is blessed on every side. Such a man is not easily knocked off his feet by the happenings around or in him without first consulting the Lord. Do you want to be a wise person? Humbly ask the Lord for wisdom without doubting in your heart and you will recieve; then continue in His Word to remain wise. God bless you.
