Don’t Put The Cart Before The Horse

This age have witnessed an upsurge in the preoccupation and obsession with ‘how to get’ mantra. Several books, seminars, talks and many more try to teach people ‘how to get’ one thing or the other, from the arena of love to wealth! Thus effectively losing sight of what is truly important. But let us go back to the Scriptures and find out the Lord’s view on this obsession. Have you ever wondered how many business ventures King Solomon must have been involved with to earn him such stupendous wealth? He was involved in several, but was that truly what brought his wealth? The Bible tells us that God blessed him; this singular pronouncement paved the way and showed him how to make wealth, hence the ‘businesses’: “In addition, I will give you what you did not ask for: both riches and honor, so that no man in any kingdom will be your equal during your entire life” (1Kings 3:13). This was true, as his wealth was legendary and dignitaries traveled from far and wide to hear him speak

How Is Your Foundation?

Listening to a man of God the other day explaining why he believes the current discuss on sexual orientation is legitimate despite the fact that it negates God’s word, was very disheartening. According to him, the ‘people’ have no choice in choosing whom to love. When it was pointed out to him that this so called choice negates God’s word, he posited that the word of God was evolving! This argument and many like it have led so many astray; and quite frankly have undermined the integrity of the foundation of many. So as not to get confused, God’s word is immutable and stands sure forever, it is equally settled in Heaven. Thus, it is not controversial neither does it evolve! God’s word is pure and there is no lie. People like the above man of God that try to stretch the word of God to have meanings and connotations that were never intended are proved a lie by the same Word: “Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Don’t add to His words or

The Narcissist Believer

‘Can you imagine, I was passed over to lead the choir in our next ministration because I do not look right’, my young friend announced as she flopped on the seat in front of me. Confused, ‘Why’, I asked. In exasperation she told me, ‘my choir leader says I don’t look good’. Now, I was truly confused; because I was trying to understand what her looks has to do with her beautiful voice. ‘But you are not scruffy and you always present yourself well’, I ventured. ‘That’s just the problem’, she continued exasperatedly, ‘I am not beautiful enough to be put in front of the whole Church ministering, so says my choir leader. He says I need to work on the way I look if I truly want to lead’! This exchange is a familiar one because we live in a world that encourages and celebrates narcissist behaviors: A behavior that encourages too much interest in and admiration for one’s own looks and abilities. A terrible obsession to look and feel good which is now given as a prerequisite for havi

Courage And Confidence

After the fall of man in the Garden in Genesis chapter 3, God’s main desire was to reconcile man back to Himself. Throughout the Bible we see the Lord calling man back to Himself, so that man may actually reach his potential and fulfill the mandate for which he was created: “ For we are His creation – created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Please note that the above scripture is not for some but for ALL that will believe in Him. We saw Him call Noah, Abraham, Moses and numerous others, equip them and send them forth to fulfill their mandates. For as many of them that heeded the call and were faithful to the cause recorded successes. God gave glowing testimonies about these fathers: “…Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them” (Hebrews 11:16b). Their courage and confidence in Him blazed a trail for us to follow. One would wonder, is it that thes

Those Resolutions

As the previous year drew to a close and the present year began, so many prophecies were given by men and women of God as to what the future holds. At the same time many people equally penned down resolutions they hope to follow in order to be successful in the New Year. As great as all these may be, we must not lose sight of the fact that the God of Heaven loves His children and has His own plans. While it is good to pen down all the resolutions and make concrete and elaborate plans as to how we want our lives to go in the year, we must equally understand that: "A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps" (Proverbs 16:9). Someone argued that we have been given wisdom to know what is right and it is a fitting thing to do. As good as this argument and others like it may sound, if the plans are not grounded in God they will fail. That is why we were told to: "Commit your activities to the Lord and your plans will be achieved" (Proverbs
