Are You Light or Darkness?

The topic is a very interesting question you may think, but one that should cause us to meditate and evaluate our stance as sons of the Most High God. That is, if we are born again Christians! For many, without thinking would obviously declare that they are sons of light. By the way, who would want to claim he is a son of darkness? Even the devil disguises himself as an agent of Light! When we said yes to Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Saviour, we were actually declaring: “…I have been crucified with Christ; and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The Life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:19b-20). If we profess this as the truth of our lives, then the fruits of our lives will bear witness of this new and borrowed life! A Life the Bible tells us is Light with no hint of darkness: “Now this is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him” (1John 1:5).

To live outside of God (Jesus Christ) is to live in darkness and your deeds will be that of darkness. Don’t be deceived, both light and darkness produce fruits: “For you were once darkness but now you are light – For the fruit of light results in all goodness, righteousness and truth – discerning what is pleasing to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:8-10). We know that fruits cannot be faked. As a child of God, one may fake gifts but the fruits of Light (Spirit) cannot be faked no matter how much one tries to disguise it! The aforementioned Scripture says “you were once... but now you are”, meaning, in our previous way of life, we lived, operated in and bore fruits of darkness. Now, this darkness has a similitude of light, but a light that does not illuminate the heart. When we carry and live in the Light, goodness, truth (not falsehood or deceit) and righteousness (to live in integrity and right standing with God) will be natural to us. Our desire will always be to discern what pleases the Lord in all that we do or say, and do it! When we struggle in these areas, something is wrong with the ‘Light’ we carry. This is so because the Bible tells us: “…In Your light we see light” (Psalm 36:9).  Thus, if we are producing fruits that are markedly different from the fruits of Light, then we are seeing through another form of ‘light’! No wonder Jesus Christ warned us: “Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light” (Luke 11:35-36).

Sadly, the enemy, in order to blind many wonderful sons of God, will declare this and many such messages as being judgmental; arguing that every man will stand before God and give account! This is true, but not whole. Yes we will all stand before the Almighty God to give account, but until then, we need to share with ourselves the truth and encourage/rebuke ourselves to remain IN the truth. The TRUTH is not subjective or can it be bent to anyone’s interpretation based on prevalent circumstances. But it is rooted in the Word of God; God’s Word IS TRUTH and this TRUTH is LIGHT! No wonder we were told, let your light so shine that men will give glory to your Father in Heaven. Beloved, that which is radiating from you is it giving people joy and causing them to praise your Father in Heaven, or they look at your life and curse your existence?!

Beloved, as the day of the Lord draws near, we need to take a look at our stand in Him and readjust where necessary if we truly believe He is coming to take us home: “Examine and test and evaluate your own selves to see whether you are holding to your faith and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves [not Christ]. Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you – unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected” (2Corinthians 13:5, AMP)? Again, are you light or darkness? Answer this truthfully for yourself; and may the Lord grant you the grace to stand and remain in His Light, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!
