The Accursed Thing – Part 2

The second poignant point we found in Joshua 6:18 is “… and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.” The accursed thing will not only bring a man under a curse but the whole camp. Look at the case of Jonah in Jonah 1:1-11, his sin brought calamity upon the passengers that were travelling with him. A bothersome issue in this narrative is in verse 5 the Bible says: “The mariners were afraid and cried every man unto his god and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.” This shows that Jonah was fast asleep, unaffected and unperturbed by the trouble threatening the lives of the crew and his fellow travelers. Same thing occurred in Joshua 7, Achan was unaffected by the calamities that befell the camp. I’m sure he would have joined the debate of finding out what could have brought such calamity to the nation of Israel. The Bible says, 36 men of Israel were slaughtered by the nation Ai and Israel turned their backs and fled from their enemies. This was unheard of; however, do remember the warning that was given by the Lord in Joshua 6:18 that the accursed thing will bring a curse upon the camp and trouble it. As long as Achan remained in the camp there will be trouble in the camp. Perhaps you are the Achan in the camp or Jonah in that ship that is responsible for the troubles facing the whole group or family. There is good news, God has made His mercy available if only you would go to the foot of the Cross in repentance and receive it. If you refuse, the good news could become a bad one because destruction will come suddenly. On the other hand, if you are troubled needlessly for something you have no idea nor are part of, God is giving you the revelation of them because you must excel. For everything we have lost as a result of Achan in our camp God is ready to restore. To that person who have been experiencing trouble in the family or at the work place, God will not just expose the root but fix the problem. In order not to incur the wrath of God upon your life and family every accursed thing must be taken away (exposed). In Joshua 7:24, Achan and his household were destroyed together with the accursed thing. Is there anything in your possession that you know is accursed, it is time for restitution. Know this, everyone that had been at ease whilst you have been troubled God will trouble! After the death of Achan, there was peace in the camp again. Peace is restored to you and your camp in Jesus Christ Name. Shalom.
