Many children of God have made choices and taken decisions that are now hard to bear. Unfortunately, so many are not learning from the mistakes of those that had gone before them, but desire to make their own. No matter what the teachings are on why it is acceptable to make your own mistakes and learn from them, these mistakes can be painful and the road to recovery hard to bare. Why not try to learn from those that have gone before? The Bible tells us that the accounts in Scriptures were written for us to learn and not to fall into the same mistakes the characters made but to learn from both their weaknesses and strengths. One area that the children of God seem to sermonize over and think God will overlook is the area of unholy alliances. The Lord clearly warns in 2Corinthians 6:14-16 that we should not be mismatched with unbelievers. This is not to say that we should not talk with them that would be like saying we should move to another planet. But the Lord is saying we cannot be “unequally yoked” with them no matter the circumstances. Can you yoke a goat and a sheep together to do a work, or a donkey and an ox? Can light and darkness hold hands in friendship? The Message Bible Version went further to ask: can Christ and the devil go strolling together? It then concludes that this is not partnership but war. I dare add in cases that bother on life especially in areas of marriage, you have no business being mismatched with an unbeliever. Friend this is a recipe for disaster. One Scripture that so many have used to back their unholy choices and decisions is Genesis 24:1-7. They believe that since Abraham could send his servant to the pagan land from which he came from, they too can go to the world to seek a spouse. If I may ask: what would be your yardstick for the search? These same yardsticks you have proffered are deceitful and can be faked, what then? If you insist on your own way all you will get is pain and disappointment. Verse 7 shows us that God is capable of going to Mesopotamia to bring our spouses, but we are not permitted to return that way. The reason being the world, with its many wiles and allures can win us over. When God goes into the world to fetch a spouse for us, it means He has started working by the Holy Spirit on and in the life of the person being fetched. In John 10:16 Jesus Christ said “But I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also and they will listen to My Voice. Then there will be one flock, one Shepherd.” If we try to usurp the role of the Holy Spirit in this, we are setting ourselves up for a massive heart break. God is still in the business of making. Allow Him to make and fetch your spouse. Remain like Rebekah that was found by the well in preparedness and alertness; Isaac meditating upon the Word in the fields such that when he saw the camels, he knew. Only a man that waits upon the Lord will have his strength renewed and would never be put to shame. Those that went fetching themselves, how have they fared? Friend, stand fast and see the Holy Spirit move on your behalf. The Grace to remain faithful to His Word is released to you in Jesus Christ name. God bless you.
I remember meeting a man of God in his office after the Sunday Services in his Church. I, like many others that day needed a few minutes with him. I was there at the instruction of the LORD to deliver a message. As we were talking, one of his Church workers came in and gave him a note. His face lit up, and he was very excited. I saw that there were sets of numbers written. I thought the numbers represented those who gave their lives to Christ, because many came out during the Altar Call to give and rededicate their lives to the LORD Jesus Christ. No! Apparently, they represent the number of people in attendance at each of the three services with the corresponding money collections realised. They were not concerned about the souls that came out hungry for God! I was saddened by their excitement. They were not excited about the souls that came into the Kingdom of God; rather, they were rejoicing about their egos, ranks and bank a...
