Have you ever considered your walk
with the Lord Jesus Christ, how would you rate it? Do you have a part to play
in it or you simply ‘go with the flow’ since you are born again? So many rate
their walk with the Master by what their pastors say. The pastor tells you, you
are doing great in your walk even when there are obvious shortcomings on your
part. The excuse given is that, once these shortcomings are pointed out to you,
you will become discouraged but if you are told ‘you’re doing great’, the tendency
(according to their reasoning) is that you will be motivated to walk deeper.
The Scripture is filled with men that had shortcomings and we saw how God
rebuked them, how they turned to the Lord and He helped them. The Bible tells
us to help restore a fallen brother or sister in the spirit of gentleness but
equally taking heed to ourselves so as not to be tempted. The truth is, we have
hyped the ‘restoring in gentleness’ but forgot to take heed to ourselves. In
restoring a brother or sister, we are not supposed to water down the scripture,
thus making it lifeless nor are we to flatter or lie to the erring person. Even
in gentleness and love, it must be done in truth and sincerity of heart. Gentleness
and love without truth is falsehood!
What is the Bible’s position on our
own personal responsibilities in regard to our walk with God? 2 Peter 1:10 says
“Therefore brethren be even more diligent
to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never
stumble”. Friend, there are some things that must be done in order to make
our calling and election sure. It is not what the pastor or preacher says but
something that must be gained by experiential knowledge. In order words, what
you’d experience for yourself. If you are only sure of your walk with God by
the pronouncements of the preacher then you are an immature child of God
lacking in the very things that should make your call and election sure. These
things are faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly
kindness and love. These things are not some ‘things’ you pick up by the way
side but we are told to be ‘diligent’ in adding these things to our life of
faith. This is our responsibility on a daily basis. It becomes a counterfeit
life when we believe that since we are born again, living under grace all these
things will automatically be added to us. That is not the gospel of Christ but
another gospel!
Friend, how is your life of faith?
What have you added to it since you started walking with the Lord? If you have,
continue so that you can abound in them and your life, knowledge and walk with
God will be fruitful. However, if you are still in the faith level, where
everything you do and believe revolves round you, then it is time to awaken
from a deathly sleep and get to work! Be diligent to add to your faith or your
walk with the Lord will be unfruitful. The grace to arise and diligently walk
with the Master is released to you in Jesus Christ name. God bless you.
