We live in a world where those who suppress the truth have the loudest voices. They are more persuasive in their arguments because their arguments sound logical and well-reasoned. However, the fact that an argument is loud and logical does not necessarily mean it is the truth. At the same time, the fact that an argument is loud and logical does not mean it is of God. So many claim they do not care where it originates from, but they agree with and have bought into its message. If that is your stance, then you need to hear this because what you believe and have bought into is a lie. Remember, ignorance is not bliss but a dangerous position to occupy as many ‘ignorants’ abound in hell!
The argument for celebrating St. Valentine's Day is loud and sounds logical but it is not the truth, nor is it of God! It is not of God because the love that Jesus Christ portrays carries within it the responsibility of self-sacrifice whilst that of Valentine carries no responsibility but the gratification of self! The celebration has become an avenue for spiritual and commercial exploitation.
According to God’s word, the proponents of this evil and its likes know the truth but chose not to obey or walk in the truth: “…Since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. From the creation of the world His invisible attributes that is, His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse. For though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals and reptiles” (Romans 1:19-23). So as not to fall into such error, God warned us to test all spirits to determine if they are from God because many false prophets moved by false spirits abound in the world.
The very nature of God is being counterfeited daily and the sons of the Kingdom are buying into these heresies. The Bible tells us that God is love and He revealed His love for us by sending “His One and Only Son into the world so that we might live through Him” (1John 4:9b). Friends, what proof do we have that St Valentine’s ‘love’ is of God? What selfless sacrificial act did the Priest Valentine perform for mankind that was not his duty? Is it in the pairing of young unmarried people with patron saints for a year in the medieval ages by the Church? Obviously, that didn’t work out because the devil’s intention was not complete. Or is it because it claims to celebrate ‘love’?
Presently, the ‘love’ of Valentine emphasises both the courtly and erotic love. It is now used as a season to celebrate love between couples, intended couples and those being lusted after! Now, here’s the contradiction: How can a love that emphasises both the courtly and erotic love be pure and be said to come from God? How do we reckon that such a ‘love’ is sufficient to make the human being be more responsive to God and to each other? This ‘love’ is a contradiction in itself! It carries within it the following attributes in its composition: It is illicit, immoral, passionately irresponsible, humiliating and fleshly! All these cannot point one to the true knowledge of God’s love no matter how one spins or tweaks it! You might argue that it has a few good ingredients within it, but how can it be good when the end game is to gratify flesh and not glorify God?
Beloved, do you not know that “A little yeast leavens the whole lump of dough” (Galatians 5:9). For instance, a dash of iodine in pure drinking water; the water is impure and unfit for drinking. Thus, an argument that one should concentrate on the good parts of the celebration of love will not make such love pure and godly! The love of God carries within it responsibility. The perverted love of Valentine carries within it zero responsibility: It seeks only to celebrate the object of the ‘love’. No wonder some corporate organisations and groups in the guise of improving teamwork through bonding encourage their employees and members to have secret valentines (objects of their lust). Thus, giving the people an excuse to give and receive amorous advances from someone they are not engaged to or married to. This effectively takes out the personal responsibilities towards each other.
When the feelings of responsibility are thrown out of the window, the ground is made ready for illicit, immoral, selfish and humiliating amorous experiences. Even the suggestive gifts given, though look harmless are actually disguised cupid arrows (which is the symbol of Valentine’s perverted love) shot at the hearts of the recipients: “But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desires. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death” (James 1:15).
The sad part of these celebrations is the fact that undiscerning Churches organize seminars for the married and singles so that they would not be supposedly carried away by the winds of darkness at this time. Unfortunately, these programs since they were not authorised by God are hijacked by the enemy. In most of these gatherings, brothers have condoms in their pockets just waiting for the fun to begin. Pray tell, why do you think true love which is the very nature of God can be taught only on a day that the enemy has set out to celebrate his perverted love? If true love had been taught every day in that congregation in the past year, there would not be a need to hurriedly put up a program that would seek to checkmate the winds of darkness. The program in itself is a testimony that true love had not been taught in that congregation. If it had, the congregants would know and understand that they do not have to wait until a particular day to show their love to their spouses and that true and pure love truly comes with responsibilities as exemplified by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
You may declare that you do not believe in it but you need to buy presents and show your spouse that you love them. Friend, I must break this to you: You do believe in it and have bought into the idolatry! If not, you will not wait till this day to prove your undying love for your spouse or your fiancé! The fact that Christians are the major culprits in this idolatry goes to show what most pulpits are teaching their congregations: “You yourselves are our testimonial, written in our hearts and yet open for anyone to inspect and read. You are an open letter about Christ which we ourselves have written, not with pen and ink but with the Spirit of the living God. Our message has been engraved not in stone, but in living men and women” (2 Corinthians 3:2-3, J. B. Phillips).
Dear child of God, the ‘love’ of St. Valentine is not of God but from the pit of hell to derail and corrupt as many as will buy into its wares!
