Every activity of man encompasses these four positions:
walking, standing, sitting or lying to sleep or rest. Just as we do these
activities physically, we also carry them out spiritually. The context in which
these activities occur spiritually affects the outcome of what we do in the
physical. No wonder the Bible tells us: “Blessed
is the man who walks not in the
counsel of the ungodly, nor stands
in the path of sinners, nor sits in
the seat of the scornful…” (Psalm 1:1). Concerning lying down to sleep or
rest, Samson laid his head to rest on the wrong lap and he was overpowered,
which eventually led to his death. However, for our discussion today, we will
be looking at sitting. As the year begins with all manner of resolutions and
races, Heaven admonishes us to be mindful of where we sit. Where we sit
determines the manner of instructions we will receive, which ultimately affects
how we live. As we walk in this New Year
and await His return, the Bible tells us: “He
that sits in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of
the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1). Only in that position can instructions that
will change a man’s life will be released to him. The Bible equally tells us
that when Christ went up the mountain, those that want to follow Him, climbed
up the mountain after Him and sat at His feet. After they sat, He began to
teach them deep things about the Kingdom that were not given to those that were
in the valley below.
Beloved, as the year unfolds, we need to hear His
instructions to make a success of the year in our lives. It is important therefore,
to mind where we are seated so as not to hear and run with instructions that didn't come from the mouth of the Lord: “But He
answered , ‘It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word
that comes from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:4). Mary sat in this position
when her sister came against her, the Lord defended her. This means it is not
only a position of instruction and revelation, it is equally a position of
protection and power. The place you receive instruction and inspiration is
actually where you are seated. According to Psalm 1, the reason men can sit
amongst mockers or the scornful is because they are sitting in a place that is
not of God. Beloved, no man sitting in the secret place of God will mock the
things of God. If mocking the things of God comes easily to you, you are actually
sitting in an unauthorized place. When you teach and twist the Word of God, to
fall in with your vision or actions, or you excuse your wrong actions or
attitude by claiming Grace, something is not right with where you are seated.
Finally, as you start drawing road maps for your life to run the races you earmarked for yourself, please understand that the road map of your life is not hidden somewhere in your heart. If it
were, we would be greatly deceived: “The
heart is more deceitful than anything else and desperately sick – who can
understand it” (Jeremiah 17:9)? Rather the road map of your life for this year is in the Lord’s hand: “Your eyes saw me when I was formless, all
my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began”
(Psalm 139:16). Every instruction, direction and counsel you need to
live a life that is filled with joy and abundance is situated in Him: "I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with My eye on you, I will give counsel" (Psalm 32:8). However, it can
only be accessed and released to you as you sit at His feet, the secret place! God
bless you as you determine to sit and remain in the secret place of the Most
High God.
