“You will keep in
perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed
and focused on You – on both inclination and character], because he trusts and
takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation]” (Isaiah 26:3,
AMP).
The desire of the Lord is that our minds will focus solely on Him.
However, we live in a world that tells us different. A world that tells us it
is okay to believe in God (something greater than yourself), but to be
successful one must be solely occupied by the desire to succeed in our chosen
field. As amazing as this idea may be, the end result is far from where God
would want us to be, because success in our chosen field does not necessarily translate to living a peaceful, full and satisfied life. The Lord tells us: “…I came that they may have and enjoy life,
and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]” (John 10:10b,
AMP). Meaning, having a satisfied and enjoyable life is attainable, BUT only in
Christ Jesus! Such a life has his mind firmly planted in Him. All his thoughts
are centered completely and fully on the Lord Jesus Christ! Beloved, what occupies your mind?
A man cannot
rise above what occupies his mind. That which occupies your mind is your
master: “…For you are a slave to whatever
controls you” (2Peter 2:19b, NLT), because what is on your mind shapes your
words, your attitude and character and ultimately dictates the direction of
your life. For instance, Gehazi was a man that seemingly loved the Lord since he
was in the service of Elisha. But a chance circumstance exposed his mindset.
Remember, what occupies a man’s mind is what directs him: “Gehazi, the attendant of Elisha the man of God, thought: My master has
let this Aramean Naaman off lightly by not accepting from him what he brought. As
the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him” (2Kings
5:20). For a few change of clothing and some silver, Gehazi derailed his
destiny. Beloved, a man may pretend for years, but when the circumstances are
right, his true nature will be exposed.
If you are plagued by anxious thoughts,
worries, fears, depressive thoughts and the likes, it is because your mind has
strayed from Your Stabilizer, Who is Jesus Christ! Beloved, as we grow and
mature in God through the study, meditating and practicing of God’s Word, our
minds become pure and anchor on Christ Jesus. This will equally turn our
thought process to what is right. This purity pushes out the pollution of the
world that had been programmed into our minds. No wonder, we were warned: “Do not be conformed to this age, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the
good, pleasing, and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2).
Finally, Beloved,
consciously sweep out thoughts that are not of God from your mind. This you
cannot do without studying God’s Word, meditating on and practicing what you
had read and heard: “For the rest,
brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable
and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable,
whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and
excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take
account of these things [fix your minds on them]” (Philippians 4:8, AMP).
May the Lord grant us the Grace to have our minds constantly fixed on Him, in
Jesus Christ name. God bless you!
