As a Bible student who is watching for and awaiting the Return of our LORD Jesus Christ, one must be preoccupied with living a life that is worthy of the LORD when He returns. Many claim we live in times where knowledge is abundant. That sounds true, but at the same time, we live in times that are dark and growing darker concerning the knowledge of God on earth. Daily, people attempt to rewrite and misinterpret the Word of God to suit their own appetites. As a result of this, people are getting more fickle in their service and walk with God.
Jesus asked a pertinent question when He was teaching us to be persistent in our prayers: "...Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth" (Luke 18:8b) In the parable, He told of a persistent widow who sought justice from a very difficult and ungodly judge. When looking at the parable, we see the consistency and persistence of the widow until she got her request. Yet when Jesus finished narrating the parable, He did not conclude with just us being persistent and consistent in our prayers, like the woman, but rather He asked if He would find faith when He returns. This calls for our attention: to pause and think!
The faith being spoken of is beyond praying and believing for things, but a state of being! The same state Daniel and his 3 friends were in. No matter what was thrown at them they remained TRUE to God! How is your faith? Our faith should not wholly be because of what we would get or receive when we serve Him. But a faith that burns for Him whether we receive or not. In fact, can the faith you claim to carry, carry you through the fires that are coming to the earth? OH! Don't you know fires are coming? You may have to go back and sit with Matthew 24 again. A fire of testing is coming to test as many as claim they are sons of God. How ready are you?
As the year is running to a close and we take stock of the year and prepare for the next, if He tarries, how is your faith? Have you compromised it severally along the line because of your needs and goals? If Heaven should call for your soul this night, are you confident you'd wake up to see the Lord's face shining on you, or the very thought fills you with fear? The preachers and men of God can preach and live as they please, but you must live as a Berean Christian. You must hold on to your faith, make sure it burns to the end, no matter the cost.
The three young Hebrew men in Daniel understood this and stood their ground to the very end: "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God, whom we serve, is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up” (Daniel 3:16-18). This is the kind of stance we must have when faced with situations that want to douse or quench the fires of our faith. No wonder the Bible tells us: "And they overcame him {the devil and his minions} by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death" (Revelation 12:3).
Beloved, the faith of many in the Body of Christ is waning. Not out of persecution but because they love the wealth, the shining things and their lives more than they love Jesus Christ. Beloved, don't be deceived, God does not have, nor is He looking for fans, He is looking for disciples. People who have chosen to follow Him step by step daily, not on the terms of the world and its systems, but on the terms of the LORD, just as the 3 Hebrew young men did. They did not care about the glory, influence or strength of the king before them; they would rather follow and die for Him Who created the whole Universe!
Beloved, it is time to look into the Perfect Mirror of God (WORD), and begin to readjust, cut off, prune and grow in God's Word: "This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, so that [inspired and aided] by them you may fight the good fight [in contending with false teachers], keeping your faith [leaning completely on God with absolute trust and confidence in His guidance] and having a good conscience; for some [people] have rejected [their moral compass] and have made a shipwreck of their faith. Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they will be disciplined and taught not to blaspheme" (1Timothy 1:18-20, AMP).
Let your faith grow and burn for Him, by studying, meditating and praying His Word daily. As you do this, you will be able to withstand the waves of lies and deciet from hell; and you will continually mature in Him. May the LORD bless you as you allow Him to cultivate and prune you in Him, in Jesus Christ name!
