Power From On High

A remarkable thing happened in the ministry of Christ that would have made many a pastor to question their abilities. In Acts 1:4-8, Christ had risen from the dead and for forty days, He stayed with the disciples teaching and encouraging them concerning what was to come. Just when He will be taken up into Heaven, He told His disciples not to leave Jerusalem until they are baptised by the Holy Spirit which will grant them power for the tasks ahead. Unfortunately, the disciples had miscontrued the reason for His coming and staying in the first instance. Their mindset was not intune with the Kingdom of God as they thought that the reason for His coming was political and to cause a revolution against the Roman oppressors at the time. They asked: "Lord, at this time are You restoring the kingdom to Israel?" (Acts 1:6). What a shocking statement. This would have made quite a few pastors to feel frustrated as if they had wasted the past three and a half years of ministry. This

Sacrifice: A Culture of the Kingdom

In today's world the word sacrifice seems to have almost disappeared from our vocabulary and has almost become extinct in our way of life; this is more so amongst the children of the Kingdom. Today, where words like self-actualisation, self-realisation and self-optimization have all been coined into the way we define the quality and pattern of our service, sacrifice has been swept under the carpet. But how else can we best serve our God? At our convenience? That will simply not do. From the beginning of time God has shown that a lifestyle of sacrifice is an invaluable key to activating  His power in our lives as we saw in the lives of Abraham, David, Solomon, Cornelius the Centurion and many more: All affirm that the heart of God is moved whenever man goes out of his comfort zone to please Him.The lifestyle of sacrifice is the substance of our service as children of the Kingdom. Not a service done in comfort and convenience but a life of sacrifice offered out of love for our

Prepare The Way Of The Lord!

When we carefully examine the Lord’s first visit to Israel almost 2000years ago, we see that despite all the signs and prophecies that had gone ahead of Him, many were still not prepared for His coming. Though Sabbath after Sabbath prophecies about Him were read out loud for people to hear, so that when He finally appeared they may all recognise Him and partake of His glory. Yet not even the family of the high priest or the religious elites where aware of His coming. They knew all the right scriptures, but there was an evident lack of preparation of the heart. Malachi 3:2 declares “ but who may abide the day of His coming and who shall stand when he appeareth for He is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers soap ”.  John the Baptist, who was a forerunner, came to Israel with the cry of the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 40:3-7.  His message was simple and still relevant even in our day: “prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God”.

What ‘Cool’ Churches Could Learn from Abercrombie & Fitch – J. Lee Grady

If you’ve ever wandered into an Abercrombie & Fitch store, you know about coolness. The retailer markets its line of sweaters, hoodies and overpriced T-shirts using dim lighting, funky music and wall-sized photos of buff models wearing $98 jeans. But the store began losing customers this year when it became known that CEO Mike Jeffries only wanted thin, popular teens to wear his clothes. “A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes],” Jeffries said in an interview, adding that he only wanted “cool, good-looking people” wearing the A&F label. His policy has now officially backfired. Upset parents threw out tons of the retailer’s clothes, activist teens staged a boycott, and a guy from California launched a video campaign urging people to give the uber-cool A&F duds to homeless people in protest. All this proved that sometimes being cool is, in fact, not cool—especially when cool becomes exclusionary. When I read about the demise of Abercrombie & Fitch, I couldn’t

Doors To The Kingdom

One of the ways the enemy is working on the hearts and minds of people to love and express passion for everything else apart from God is to shut their hearts to the workings of the kingdom of God. Scripture declares “His mercies are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23), unfortunately, not many are positioned to receive it. Acts 10:38 says “how the Lord was anointed with the Spirit and with Power who went about doing good” . This is not just a historical fact but a present reality. Jesus is still very much involved in the ‘doing good’ business and He daily demonstrates His Kingdom among us, but not too many are caught up in this flow from the throne of God. Friends since the day of Pentecost the Lord’s own Spirit, the Holy Spirit, has been released unto the earth to do all that Jesus would have done if He were here in the flesh both in us, for us and through us. He came in Acts 2:2 as a rushing mighty wind , willing and ready to do what we never had the strength to do for oursel

Don’t Be Silenced!

It’s a joy to know that all the vast eternal riches of God prepared for humanity even before creation is delivered to each soul simply through the preaching of the gospel. Scriptures declare that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation for those who will believe (Romans 1:16). Nothing on earth could be so priceless and yet so readily available. There is no greater hope given to the living that can compare to the hope of the gospel. It’s no wonder then why Heaven listens so closely whenever and wherever this truth is freshly told or simply retold: That God came into this world as a man, bore our sins on the cross, tasted death and hell for us that we may walk free from accusation and condemnation. For this cause the enemy seeks desperately to silence its proclamation. Just as no king will easily permit the capture of his subjects; likewise the kingdom of darkness will put up every form of resistance to thwart the release of its captives. An example was shown in 2Timothy

Behold, He comes quickly!!!

If you have irrefutable proof that Heaven and Hell is real and you have a choice as to where to go after your stay here on earth is over, what would you do and which would you choose? The Bible tells us that we are pilgrims and strangers upon the face of the earth. This presupposes that we came from a particular place, on a particular day on our way to a particular destination. From the Scriptures we are made to understand that the destination of a man after living on earth is made whilst the man is still living on the earth. While on earth, a man has a conscious choice to choose where his final destination will be. The mystics, Nay-Sayers and hard line atheists may say or claim otherwise. The truth is man is on his way somewhere and someplace. You may claim that science has proven that man came as a result of evolution. Beautiful! But, question: How come man is yet to evolve from the present state? Or you could argue that it is easy to know where one is going since it is a matt
