Developed Or Flabby?

Mark 10:17-22 tells of the story of a Rich Young Ruler that had it made. He was living a good life but noticed there was something still very wrong. He realized he had no assurance of Heaven despite all he knew about God, thus, he approached Christ to instruct him on how he could get this assurance. After his discussion with Christ, the Bible says Jesus Christ loved him. The Lord saw the sincerity in his heart and gave him the prerequisite for eternal life and he could not accept it! The Bible says he was stunned at the demand of the Lord and went away grieving. He actually walked away because he refused to develop what he knew about God. Proverbs 9:9 says if a wise man is instructed he will be wiser, teach a righteous man and he will learn more. Once a man refuses the instructions of the Lord; instructions that will develop his love and discernment in and for the Lord, then such a man is in a precarious state. The Bible says the man walked away from the Master: we might mock him and say he walked away from the only Source of Light, thus he walked into darkness. Let us ask ourselves, how many times have we turned our backs on the Lord when a word from Him was too hard or too tough to swallow? No one disputes that you know or love the Lord, but since you have come to know Him, how have you developed?  Your development comes as you consciously allow the Word of God come into you and do the surgery that is required whether it is convenient or not. You might argue that you have grown. Fine! It is expected that as children of God, we will not only grow but equally develop. Growing comes automatically as we adhere to the Word of God (the sincere milk of God) as the Rich Young Ruler did. Unfortunately, such will grow only in the head knowledge about God. It is time however, to develop if you must enter the eternal life promised by our Master. Developing according to Philippians 1:3-11 requires exercising; putting pressure consciously on all points of our lives in order to build up our spiritual muscles. There are some things that are permitted but we will not allow them to master us because they are not beneficial for our development. Only a man that is developing in his walk with God can reason in this manner.  How are your spiritual muscles, are they developed or flabby? If you say you love and serve God, then you must develop it as you discover more of Him on a daily basis, as you do this, your discernment in every area will also be developed! Allow Him, because He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. God bless you.
