Without education,
they say, one will not amount to much because one will be foolish in his
thinking. In fact the argument goes that the lack of a certificate or a degree may
be detrimental to the success of such a person. As a result there is a great
emphasis in getting at least a high school diploma so that one can stand a
chance of being successful. Education is good and it is indeed an advantage to
get one but it should not be seen as a guarantee for making one wise. The truth
is, as helpful as an education may be, reading widely to gain knowledge, or
even traveling far and wide and being mentored by the best minds are not
guarantees or yardsticks for getting wisdom or to measure one’s wisdom. Wisdom
is not found in textbooks, discoveries, inventions or in some great mind autobiography.
Some even argue that wisdom can be gleaned through one’s associations. If this
were true, fools should not be found in families of wise people or a wise
person in a family of fools. Please do bear with me. The wisdom being talked
about here is not the result of your education, traveling and the amount of
books read; but a wisdom that comes from the knowledge of knowing God and His
way of doing things. As children of God in these dire times, we must seek and retain
wisdom in order to withstand this terrible terrain of evil suppositions and
desires that has pervaded our waking moment.
Job questioned the
rationale of wisdom when his friends that the he supposedly thought were wise
urged him to renounce his integrity and his conscience and own up to a crime or
crimes he had not committed. Their argument was that for what has befallen him
to come he has angered God and so he is being punished. I can only imagine the
chagrin of God at these ‘wise and enlightened’ friends! No wonder God had to
interrupt their spiraling words in chapter 28 of Job to ask a profound
question, which the world is still asking though in different forms. The
question, if we must paraphrase was Who is Wisdom, where is Wisdom, Who have
seen it, if it does exist? According to the Lord, everything on earth has a way
of being located and once a man puts his mind to it, nothing can remain hidden
for long. Man will always develop a process to locate such, be it a material or
person. Unfortunately, through the ages, what has remained elusive to man is
the location of wisdom, hence the senseless wars, policies, and the likes. Wisdom,
according to the Lord cannot be purchased by all the gold and precious jewels
of the world. Wisdom is hidden from the eyes of men and animals; death and
destruction in hell said they heard a rumor about Wisdom. God concluded in that
Scripture that: “God understands the way
to it and He alone knows where it dwells, for He views the ends of the earth
and sees everything under the heaven” (Job 28:23-24). There is no other
path to wisdom except God. In the New Testament, Jesus simplified it for us
when He declared in John 14:6 – “I am the
Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”.
Are you tired of living a senseless, foolish, mundane life? The answer and
process is extremely simple. Seek Jesus Christ! He is the Wisdom of ALL ages
and He will show you how to live a meaningful and impactful life. You may argue
that so many have lived and are living impactful and meaningful lives. True!
But the conclusion of the matter is that a person of great wealth and influence
without the wisdom of God is not different from a beast: “A man who is in honor, yet does not understand, is like the beasts
that perish” (Psalm 49: 20). Jesus Christ’s desire for you is to live a
meaningful and impactful life based on and led by Him not on human’s basic and
foolish instincts. God bless you as you ponder this.
