The beauty about God is that every
principle He reveals to us is exemplified in His word. From Scriptures, we
glean that as children of God, we must confront issues if we desire to change
or conquer them. This was exemplified by the daughters of Zelophehad, when they
sensed they would be disinherited because their father did not have a son (Numbers
27:1-11 and Numbers 36). They realized that with the law of God that only a son
inherits, they knew if they did not confront Moses and the Leaders they were
going to be thrown out of their father’s property. The five sisters arose and
challenged the law. God listened to them and the law was changed to accommodate
daughters as well. This principle we see play out through scriptures: We see
God use His prophets, kings, soldiers and many others to confront
unsatisfactory issues in order to change or conquer them. Even if a change did
not occur immediately, God still called out the act. We saw this with Herod
marrying his brother’s wife and John the Baptist confronted this sin in them.
Jeroboam’s idolatry was confronted; Pharisees and Sadducees were confronted by
Jesus Christ; Pharaoh was confronted by Moses; Elijah confronted King Ahab,
Prophet Nathan confronted King David’s adultery, Apostle Paul confronted
Apostle Peter’s hypocrisy and many more.
This pattern we see repeatedly
throughout Scriptures. It then follows that as sons of God, when we are in a
situation that go against the truth of God’s Word, we must stand up and
confront it in order for it to change or be conquered! So many are in
situations in the work place and in their homes and out of fear have allowed
these situations to fester and spiral out of control. One typical example in
our time is the LGBT situation in the United States of America. Because of the
silence and ‘accommodating’ posture of the Church, this terrible situation has spiraled
out of control. The way the argument is going, we may begin to see genders that
are neither male nor female! We have no one to blame but ourselves as sons of
God. For fear of being called names and the desire to be accepted, we are
relinquishing our positions in the scheme of things. Friend, no one liked Jesus
Christ during His time; after all the people that hailed Him King were the same
ones that mocked and shouted ‘crucify Him’. They called Him all manner of names,
why do you think yours will be different if you are truly His disciple?
However, they could not detract the truth about Him no matter how they tried.
We have not been called into a popular contest but to go forth and make
disciples for the Kingdom of God. It is naïve of us to think the enemy will
just roll over and allow us. Please note, we were not redeemed to become wimps
nor were we to roll over when sin is staring us in the face.
If we truly desire to overcome
these terrible personal and communal issues, it is time to confront them
truthfully. Friend, that situation at work or school that has placed you in a
terrible situation and has driven the dagger of fear into your heart,
paralyzing your faith, it is time to confront it in order to conquer it. Maybe
you are battling with anger, jealousy, pride, adultery, fornication, envy and
the likes, it is time to confront the issue and uproot it from your life
completely. Making excuses for it will not change the situation. There is a
need to get to the source and change the information that the issue is feeding
from in order to eradicate it completely from your life. These things are
limiters and will limit one from their true potential. Friend the Bible clearly
tells us: “And if your right hand causes
you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of
the parts of your body than for your whole body to go into hell” (Matthew
5:30). Enough of ‘accommodating’ the issues that are holding you bound. It is
time to confront it in order to change or conquer it. Like the Zelophehad
sisters, grace is available to you as a child of God. If you are not a child of
God, then my friend, you need to invite Jesus Christ into your heart to be your
personal Lord and Savior. Then watch Him release grace to you to confront and
conquer the very things that had held you bound. The reality is this: If you refuse to confront the issue, it can never
change or be conquered! God bless you.
