Those Resolutions

As the previous year drew to a close and the present year began, so many prophecies were given by men and women of God as to what the future holds. At the same time many people equally penned down resolutions they hope to follow in order to be successful in the New Year. As great as all these may be, we must not lose sight of the fact that the God of Heaven loves His children and has His own plans. While it is good to pen down all the resolutions and make concrete and elaborate plans as to how we want our lives to go in the year, we must equally understand that: "A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps" (Proverbs 16:9). Someone argued that we have been given wisdom to know what is right and it is a fitting thing to do. As good as this argument and others like it may sound, if the plans are not grounded in God they will fail. That is why we were told to: "Commit your activities to the Lord and your plans will be achieved" (Proverbs 16:3). Committing your activities to the Lord does not mean we should finish drawing up the plans then asking the Lord to rubber stamp them for success: "...A rich man's land was very productive. He thought to himself, 'What should I do, since I don't have anywhere to store my crops? I will do this,' he said. 'I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones and store all my grain and my goods there. Then I'll say to myself, 'You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.' But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared-whose will they be'" (Luke 12:16-20). On the contrary, God wants you to seek His face for direction. Why? Because He has a plan, hope and a future for you. This, you cannot access on your own without Him showing you what, how and when.
As a child of God upon the earth, you and your seed are signs and wonders to a world that daily refuses God. No matter the predictions of safety or calamity that may have been churned out, one thing is clear, God knows all your ways as they are not hidden from Him; even the thoughts of your hearts are clear before Him (Psalm 139:3-4). It then is foolishness for a person to think he/she can make plans and it will succeed without God. Whether to the godly or ungodly, plans only succeed when and if God allows them. Your well laid plans may look foolproof and beautiful in your sight, without seeking the face of God concerning His counsel, the plans will not succeed: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but it's end is the way of death" (Proverbs14:12). Friend, those resolutions you made, did you seek God's counsel before taking them or it seemed good to your eyes to walk and work in those guidelines? For instance, you are determined to lose weight this year and it is your number one priority. This is good! Do you know that by seeking His face concerning it before embarking on those fitness programmes He would have shown you the strategy on how to lose the weight permanently. I know of a woman that battled weight loss for a number if years without much success. But when she decided to take the problem to the Lord; His answer was simple and pivotal to her losing weight. The Lord told her to abstain from a particular food for awhile; if she could she would see her weight drop. She did, and without much diet her weight dropped drastically! That, is the power of God! Friend seek the face of the Lord for what He wants to do with you this year so you could run with it and be truly successful. May the grace of God be released upon you as you fulfill the mandate of God for making you see and enter the New Year. God bless you!
