Someone once said, ‘to thine own self be true’. True
statement! It is terrible and pathetic when a person lies and deceives himself
especially when the truth is clear for all to see. If one claims to be a
believer in Jesus Christ, it means such a person has accepted Jesus Christ as
His personal Lord and Savior. That person is simply declaring that Christ
directs and dictates the goings on in his life. If the foregoing is true in
such life, it then presupposes that such a one will produce fruits consistent
with this belief: “Therefore produce
fruit consistent with repentance” (Luke 3:8a). This fruit bearing must be a
continuous thing in such a life. If this is not the case, then something is
grossly wrong. Being a true believer in Christ carries within it truth, honesty
and sincerity. One cannot live a life of falsehood and believe in half-truths
of God’s word and claim to be a true believer.
A true believer that has the hope of reigning with Christ at the end,
such must have and display boldness in standing against the lies and
deceptions of hell, and to prevail: “For
God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing
and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of
calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control” (2Timothy 1:7,
AMP). Once we deny who we are by our words and actions, we are actually
standing in cowardice and denying our faith in Christ Jesus: “Therefore, do not lose your boldness, which
has great reward” (Hebrews 10:35, TLV). You cannot continue to make excuses
for not living consistently in the truth of God’s word but must rise up and be
a true believer!
If I may ask, how much of God’s word do you have, not the
words of your papa and mama, but God’s word in your heart? If the foundation of
your faith is on what papa and mama said but not on God’s word, then there is a
problem. It means your belief in Christ is not true. Their words cannot and should not form the basis of your faith because
a time will come that such grandiose sounding words will not work except the
infallible word of God: “Because no one
can lay any other foundation than what has been laid – that is Jesus Christ…each
one’s work will become obvious, for the day will disclose it because it will be
revealed by fire; the fire will test the quality of each man’s work”
(1Corinthians 3:11-13). May the Lord help you and may you continually grow in
your faith in Him even as the Day draws ever nearer in Jesus Christ name. God
bless you.
