A young man, who loves the LORD Jesus Christ and dutifully serves Him was frustrated one day about a particular project he was working on at his place of work. For days he couldn't find a headway in putting the assignment together. Sadly, none of his team members were of any help, as they always deferred to him when they faced similar challenges. He had always delivered in past projects with excellent results and feedback. However, on this particular one, he could not solve the issues, and no one in his team could help him.
He stood up from his chair this faithful afternoon, threw his arms up in the air and declared, "I am so frustrated, I cannot get this project done, nor can I meet the deadline of submission at this rate." Sadly, just as he had predicted, he could not resolve the issues of the project, and he missed the deadline. Unfortunately, it was a significant project and the organisation lost revenue as a result. Shortly after, the organisation promoted some of the staff in his Cadre and he was not promoted. This left him hurt, dejected and unappreciated.
Have you faced or are you undergoing similar challenges? What did you do or what are you doing about it? As children of God, He has promised to always be with us in every aspect and area of our lives. To prove this, He told us: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you" (Isaiah 43:2, AMP).
No matter how arduous the situation or journey of life is, He has promised to be with you. For this reason, we were told: "Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God" (Philippians 4:6, AMP). Knowing this, it then calls for caution in what we say and how we act when faced with life challenges.
We were told: "Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, “Listen and understand. What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them” (Matthew 15:10-11, NIV). To defile is to spoil or desecrate a thing. In this Dispensation of Grace, what we eat does not spoil or desecrate us. But what proceeds from our mouth has the power to spoil and desecrate us, the people and things around us.
The Bible tells us: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words" (Proverbs 18:21, AMP). We were warned: "And the tongue is [in a sense] a fire, the very world of injustice and unrighteousness; the tongue is set among our members as that which contaminates the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life [the cycle of man’s existence], and is itself set on fire by hell (Gehenna)" (James 3:6, AMP). The things we say have the power to derail one's life. When the soldier replied to Elisha that what was prophesied was impossible (2Kings 7:1-20), he got the consequences of what he pronounced.
Beloved, what have you been saying about your life? There is the power to create, recreate and destroy our world on our tongue: "So tell them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very thing I heard you say" (Numbers 14:28, NIV). Beloved, what have you been saying? There are so many wonderful children of God, at the slightest hint of pushback, negative words and curses begin to roll off their tongue. It should not be so!
Finally, when you are in such challenges, before speaking, pause! Then speak the heart of God into the situation. If it is a work tool, lay hands on it. Pronounce His will around you. Enough of the negative words and curses we innocently pronounce upon ourselves and the world around us. May the LORD sanctify our tongue to continually and only speak His will, and may the Holy Spirit grant us help speedily as we cry out to Him, in Jesus Christ name, Amen. God bless you!
