       “I am sorry” was always the refrain of Franklin with his wife of many years. Since he came to the Lord a few years ago he realized that he uttered those words more often than any set of words in a day. In fact a day does not go by without his saying them to God or someone. Unfortunately, his wife, a wonderful child of God had started growing impatient with him on account of those words. Instead of her usual reply of “okay darling” she now says “that is what you keep saying”! You may feel like Franklin, in all sincerity you are truly sorry but you find yourself offending again and again on the same issue. You have prayed, fasted and even set rules for yourself but you find yourself stumbling in following the Lord Jesus Christ. Friend, no matter how well intentioned we may be, if our minds are not reset to be like that of Christ’s we will find ourselves doing things we never originally set out to do.        Someone asked in a Bible Study group if it was possible, as a child of God to walk on this earth without stumbling. Without hesitation, almost all in the room chorused, ‘It is not possible’! It’s as if they have been taught that stumbling is a virtue! According to many of them, ‘that is why Christ came. He didn’t come for the perfect but the imperfect’! That statement is true, but then it begs the question: ‘Did He come to save mankind in order for them to continue in their fallen state?’ By the Scriptures we know sin wreaks violence while righteousness produces a life of peace. The Bible clearly showed us this mission in Jesus in producing righteousness in man: “Because of our God’s merciful compassion, the Dawn from on high will visit us to shine on those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1: 78-79).        “This life is a journey”! To some, the statement has become a cliché and many now see it as the language of the spiritually minded that is deluded. Whether we believe it or not, the reality is it is true. In fact from the time we gained entrance into this world, we began a journey that will and must culminate in eternity – either in peace or torment! We may build all the empires here and look for technologies not to leave this plain; the fact that you entered this plain without your knowledge or input, so you would leave this plain without your knowledge or input. But we must understand that as we go through the journey certain changes are made to our lives (physically and spiritually) based on the food we eat and our experiences. However, the physical food does not profit us for eternity, as the body it nourishes does not pass into eternity. What passes through is our soul, which is fed spiritually.       A minister was ministering to the congregation the other day and he made some dangerous pronouncements. According to him, majority of the people of the world serve the Creator of the Heavens and the earth; what differentiates each group from the other is the WAY to God. He then concluded that it doesn't matter the way one tries to reach God as long as such arrives at His Feet.   It was almost impossible for me to believe that a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ would teach such blatant heresy and the congregation will cheer him on. Then I remembered that the Bible warned the ministers: “not to teach other doctrine or to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan, which operates by faith” (1Timothy 4:3b-4). These ministers and many like them are teaching a strange gospel to the people that cannot help the people attain the primary goal God has set for them which is an eternity with Him fre...

   “I don’t say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content – whether in abundance or in need” (Philippians 4:11-12). If there is one virtue that is slowly going ‘out of fashion’ is the art of being content. The idea in the world system is that to be great individually or as an organization, such would need to continually push boundaries and refuse to be contented in the place they are in. By so doing, they will produce ‘outstanding’ results in the marketplace. Herein lies the dilemma: If a system produces great results, why can’t it be adopted into the Body of Christ, a friend recently argued? This argument came as a result of a teaching that the lessons learnt in the business world can be cascaded into our private lives in order to enhance especially areas of our lives noted to be weak. Whilst traveling some time ago with a friend, she asked me a question that was very pertinent to our foundation as children of God. She wondered why the celebration of St. Valentine's Day should be so wrong if some good can be gotten from it. She agreed that the foundation of the celebration is idolatrous but the Church was ‘smart’ to have hijacked it to promote the love of God. Her argument was we must not sit in judgment over the brethren or unbelievers; we must try to love the unbelievers, be like them so as to win them to Christ. After all, she continued, Christ visited and ate with sinners and Apostle Paul said he became all things to all men in order to win them to Christ! This is the position of so many in the Body of Christ. That is why we see so many programs organized around the period in order to ‘hijack’ the mood for God!         As logical as the foregoing arguments may sound, it is not a true reflection of God’s Word:      Firstly...

        There are so many doctrines making the round now and if one is not assured of Whom he has come to believe, such will be swept away by these ‘right’ sounding doctrines. For instance, being the beginning of the year, there are so many arguments about the right way and right manner of serving God, thereby effectively drawing the attention of so many away from the true worship of God through Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul warned Timothy about such divisive persons that pretend to know the Scriptures but do not; unfortunately in their blabbing they draw men away from the Truth of God’s Word: “…These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan, which operates by faith.
