VALENTINE’S DAY CELEBRATION: IS IT OF GOD? 1

Where exactly does the celebration of Valentine come from? If we claim as most do, that our forefathers in Christendom handed it down to us, where did they get it from? The most prevalent and popular claim is that a Catholic monk named Valentine once lived, did good and sent gifts to people around him. After his death was raised to sainthood and has ever since then being celebrated.  If truly he was a man that did so much good, what is strangely unique in that? He only performed his duties to his fellow humans as he ought to.  The Bible says in Luke 17:7-10 (NLT): “When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep does his master say, ‘come in and eat with me’? No, he says ‘prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.’ And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not! In the same way, when you obey Me, you should say ‘we are unprofitable slaves who have simply done our duty’.” So many did well, still do well and send gifts to all around them. How come they are not celebrated? If the criterion was to do good and send gifts to all and sundry, we should then have St. Matilda’ Day, St. Emeka’s Day, St. Shina’s Day, St. Johnson’s Day and so on. After all, they all are good and have done well. By the time we apportion a day each for ourselves in a year, the world will have to call us to a meeting. On a serious note, is it really of God? Did God say it should be celebrated? Since he is dead (St Valentine), does anyone really know where he is, either in Heaven or Hell; that is if he ever existed? What were his motives for doing what he was said to have done? Remember, a good man is not necessarily a godly man. What exactly is God saying about it? Christians and non-Christians celebrate it together without asking where this custom originated from. Pastors, Youth Presidents, Bishops, Deacons and Church Leaders encourage and support this celebration, which they believe they can use to win souls for the Kingdom by swelling the number of their congregation. ‘After all, (they rationalize) if we are winning souls for the Kingdom, Christ will not be displeased’. They forgot the Scripture in Hebrews 12:28-29 that says: “Therefore, since we are receiving a Kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.” Also in Mark 7:9 and 13: “And He said to them, you have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! Thus you nullify the Word of God by your traditions that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”  History reveals that the customs and traditions that accompany this celebration were in existence before Christianity. In fact, Valentine Day’s celebration has its origins in ancient Babylon. The master plan of the devil is to produce a false bride that will go into destruction with him. To achieve this plan, the devil devised a false church plan system which took off in Babylon and has taken core root in every culture. The devil has since then taken the world into the path of destruction by seducing men away from worshipping the One and Only True God,  Revelations 18:2-3.  Valentine’s Day Celebration is a celebration of lust – perverted Love! It is not of the Lord but of man for God Himself is the totality of LOVE. The devil is incapable of giving or receiving love. Nothing outside of God has any vestige of love nor can it give love!

The Quarry Site Experience

Have you ever visited a quarry site and considered the process the rocks are subjected to before they become dressed stones to be used? If the stones could talk they will have a story to tell about their experiences.  As children of God we go through diverse experiences and we wonder if we will indeed survive them. Sometimes we wonder why our gracious and compassionate Father would allow such to befall us considering who we are in Him and what we are doing in His vineyard.  The Scripture that should readily come to our minds in such circumstances is God’s assurance when He said: “I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire and the flame will not burn you ” (Isaiah 43:2). This Scripture assures us that through the experiences of flames and waters, God is always by our side to see us through.  Thus, it is necessary for us to go through the...

Are You A True Disciple? Part 1

This decade opened with very dire straits for mankind, as many people around the world woke up to a world that stood still as each nation shut their borders, homes and institutions shutting their doors. If many had been told this scenario could happen a couple of decades ago, one would say it was crazily impossible. But it did happen! Many lives and livelihoods were destroyed, and many institutions and lifestyles, including the Church, were affected. As terrible as the times were and still are, it is exposing the hearts and state of many 'sons of God'!         Many wondered aloud, 'What does the devil want for causing all this havoc?' And some went further to ask, 'What does God want?' The answer to both questions is 'Man' (male and female)! It is a battle between the Kingdom of God and darkness for the soul of man. As a result, man is being prepared both by God and the devil for eternity with either!         ...

It Is Time To Raise A Cry For Nigeria!

"The voice said, “Cry out!” And he said, “What shall I cry?” “All flesh is grass, And all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, Because the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:6-8).         Listening to a brother detailing how Nigeria will be great again because it was foretold decades ago, I quieted down in my spirit to listen to him. According to him, the prophecies of old say that Nigeria will become a beacon of God's light to the rest of the world as they carry His Word to the rest of the world, especially in Africa. He enumerated the many qualities of Nigeria, especially the spiritual significance of her position within the continent of Africa. She will be used by God to trigger the last move of revival in the last days, he continued.         I listened attentively,...
