There is a Scripture that when I come across it all times my heart skips a beat – “‘My people are foolish and do not know Me’, says the Lord. ‘They are stupid children who have no understanding. They are clever enough at doing wrong, but they have no idea how to do right.’” – Jeremiah 4:22. Heavy!!! The question that jumps to mind is at what point did this children of God miss it that they became foolish and thoughtless, even to do good - they have no idea? Let us see an explanation in Ephesians 5:15-17 (NLT) – “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” With this, we can conclude that any decision or action that does not originate from the Lord is not only thoughtless and foolish but dangerous. So as not to be senseless, we need the mind of God and to get it we will not only go into Him we must remain in Him. He is not a Vending Machine that gives out whatever we request once the necessary coins are put in the slots. He will speak when He wants to no matter how weighty the issues are on us; thus if we want directions then we must tarry in His Presence. Ecclesiastes 8:3 says “Do not be in a hurry to leave the king’s presence.” So many run into His Presence only to run out just as fast. You may argue that it is the situation of the ‘times’ we found ourselves in. If we hold on to this argument then a lot of decisions and steps we will take will be thoughtless and foolish. This rush to leave the Presence of God has made many of the Lord’s Ministers to come up with “Express Services” and the congregation equally developed express lives and relationships. If one may ask: why would you spend hours in a restaurant talking ‘sweet nonsense’ or in a theater watching re runs or uninspiring meaningless movies for hours and we can barely spend an hour in the Presence of the Lord? A wise man that tarries in the Presence of God according to verse 5 will not experience anything harmful. Such a man will always know the right time and procedure for everything that confronts him. The Bible tells us severally how the Lord Jesus Christ goes early to the mountain to commune with His Father. Friend, the miracles and thought provoking teachings we saw Him perform and teach are the result of the time He spends with His Father. When was the last time you spent a wonderful time with the Lord without looking at the clock or your mind busy thinking about the next activity? So many claim they actually spend time with Him. Beautiful! But when last did He give you revelations that would change the course of your life? Have your quiet moments with the Lord become mechanical? Enough of living thoughtless and foolish lives! We must at all times tarry in His Presence; whether we are in class, office, traffic on our beds. Thoughts of Him must continually flood our minds and hearts. If we do this diligently, the Bible tells us that nothing harmful will come near us and we will know the time and procedure for everything we come across. God bless you.
Have you ever visited a quarry site and considered the process the rocks are subjected to before they become dressed stones to be used? If the stones could talk they will have a story to tell about their experiences. As children of God we go through diverse experiences and we wonder if we will indeed survive them. Sometimes we wonder why our gracious and compassionate Father would allow such to befall us considering who we are in Him and what we are doing in His vineyard. The Scripture that should readily come to our minds in such circumstances is God’s assurance when He said: “I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire and the flame will not burn you ” (Isaiah 43:2). This Scripture assures us that through the experiences of flames and waters, God is always by our side to see us through. Thus, it is necessary for us to go through the...
