Several times as children of God we have
wondered if we heard right when certain decisions we took under God aren't going according to the way we thought they should. We may not show it but in
our hearts we question if truly we heard the Lord right or it was a figment of
our imagination. This is not new, it happened to Moses. I could imagine the dilemma
of Moses when he led the children of Israel out of Egypt and the Lord gave him
a specific instruction that seemed to contradict their mode of leaving in
Exodus 14:1-4; “Then the Lord spoke to
Moses: ‘Tell the Israelites to turn back
and camp in front of Pi-hahiroth , between Migdol and the sea; you must camp in
front of Baal-zephon, facing it by the sea. Pharaoh will say of the Israelites:
‘they are wondering around the land in confusion; the wilderness has boxed them
in.’ I will harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. Then I will receive
glory by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I
am the Lord.’ So the Israelites did this.” Turn back? Dear Lord! No matter
how much we look at it, God had a plan and He was going to leave an indelible
mark on Egypt that will reverberate through the ages to come. This instruction
was to make the children of Israel look confused in the eyes of Pharaoh and his
army which in turn will make him want to pursue them. The Bible says when the
children of Israel looked up they saw the army of Egypt coming after them in
hot pursuit they were frightened and wished they never left Egypt. Death stared
them in the face, because Pharaoh had emptied Egypt of his army to come fight
them. However, the Lord was teaching them something about Himself: that He is
All Powerful, He created the seas and the elements and He can command them in
any way He pleases! Several times we heard God give us specific instructions
that looks as if we are dancing to the tune of the enemy or cowering at their
sight but in reality the Lord intends to gain a great victory over those that
are pursuing us. The truth is that the Israelites could have been led through
another way that may have bypassed the sea but the Lord is not One that backs down
from a challenge neither is He a coward to take the easy way out. In fact the
Officials of the court reported to Pharaoh the morning they left the land that
they had fled the country! This was a lie, they didn't run or hurry out of
Egypt but they marched out triumphantly in battle formation like an army – the army
of the Lord! Every choice you had made or are making by the Lord’s instruction
is not to run from a battle or showdown with the enemy even if it looks that
way but to declare to the enemy that God is the Lord and no one like Him! If
truly you heard Him, no regrets or cries! Just as He did with the Israelites on
that day of their deliverance, He is asking you, ‘why are you crying out to Me?
What do you have in your hand? The Bible tells us in 2Peter 1:3 that He has
given us all we need to live a life that is worthy of Him. God expects us when
faced with such challenges to hold on to His word and exercise it. It is not a
time to cry because of the enemy or be riddled with regrets but it is the time
to declare the infallible word of God to dispel every hindrance from your path.
The purpose of your living is to declare the praises of God upon the face of
the earth, of course, at the end of the battle, the enemy will declare that your
God is indeed God. Therefore, my friend, rise up from the seat of despondency,
dejection and depression and begin to declare the truth of God’s word and see
the seas, mountains and hills part and skip like rams before you in the
Presence of the Almighty God. Are they pursuing you, let them come, they will
know by experience that Jesus Christ is the LORD of all the earth. God bless
you.
Have you ever visited a quarry site and considered the process the rocks are subjected to before they become dressed stones to be used? If the stones could talk they will have a story to tell about their experiences. As children of God we go through diverse experiences and we wonder if we will indeed survive them. Sometimes we wonder why our gracious and compassionate Father would allow such to befall us considering who we are in Him and what we are doing in His vineyard. The Scripture that should readily come to our minds in such circumstances is God’s assurance when He said: “I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire and the flame will not burn you ” (Isaiah 43:2). This Scripture assures us that through the experiences of flames and waters, God is always by our side to see us through. Thus, it is necessary for us to go through the...
