If you should do an evaluation of
your life would you honestly say you have put in your best in every endeavor of
your life? Or you only try to put in your best because of the number of people
watching or depending on you? The desire in you to put in more is not borne out
of a desire to please God but to please the people around you; if this is the
description of your life, then it is time to change that description. This
manner of lifestyle may give you points with men but ultimately, your true
identity as a man pleaser or a hypocrite will come to the fore. Unfortunately,
the world celebrates such people and even coin names for them as socially out
going people. As a child of God, if we
walk in this manner, our service to God and relationships with each other will
be filled with lies and hypocrisy. Maybe you have seen this in your life or
that of a loved one in Christ; no matter the effort put in to change, you just
find yourself slipping back into the mire. But what does the Bible have to say
about this? Philippians 2:5 tells us “Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus”.
In other words, Christ’s mindset must be ours. Everything He did was for the
glory of God the Father not to please or win the approval of any man. The
reason why so many become people pleaser is because they want to protect their
perceived territories and for self preservation, thus, winning the approval of
people like them. Christ left His glory to come down to earth to die for sinful
man. Because of His success, He is highly exalted with a Name above every other
name, such that at His Name every knee on earth, in Heaven under the earth
shall bow. In light of the above, when we serve God selflessly in all spheres
of life no matter the conditions, more glory and honor is released to us here
on earth and in eternity with the Lord. “Don’t
work only while being watched, in order to please men, but as slaves of Christ,
do God’s will from your heart. Render service with a good attitude, as to the
Lord and not to men, knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free,
he will receive this back from the Lord.” Ephesians 6:6-8. Thus, whatever
mindset you employ to carry out your duties on this earth, bear it at the back
of your mind that there’s a reward waiting: “Look
I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me to repay each person according to
what he has done.” Revelation 22:12. Friend, it is time to serve God
selflessly and not to play to the gallery as our approval is from Him and not
from any person! God bless you.
Have you ever visited a quarry site and considered the process the rocks are subjected to before they become dressed stones to be used? If the stones could talk they will have a story to tell about their experiences. As children of God we go through diverse experiences and we wonder if we will indeed survive them. Sometimes we wonder why our gracious and compassionate Father would allow such to befall us considering who we are in Him and what we are doing in His vineyard. The Scripture that should readily come to our minds in such circumstances is God’s assurance when He said: “I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire and the flame will not burn you ” (Isaiah 43:2). This Scripture assures us that through the experiences of flames and waters, God is always by our side to see us through. Thus, it is necessary for us to go through the...
