How Is Your Scent?

“But thanks be to God, who always puts us on a display in Christ, and spreads through us in every place the scent of knowing Him. For to God we are the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To some we are a scent of death leading to death, but to others a scent of life leading to life. And who is competent for this” (2Corinthians 2:14-16)? Praise God, our competence is not of ourselves but in Christ Jesus! Beloved, on a daily basis, we are put on display for the whole world, to show the world what it means to serve the one and only Jesus Christ. One place that had truly showcased this scent is the social media. Unfortunately this platform has equally proven that so many carry a contrary scent, since their scent is repelling people from coming to the Lord because of the conflicting smells emanating from them. They forgot the mandate: “No rotten talk should come from your mouth, but only what is good for the building up of someone in need, in order to give grace to those who hear” (Ephesians 4:29) and “…Instead, you should be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity” (1Timothy 4:12b).
As the year draws to a close, how has your scent fared? In your place of work, school or living, can people smell the scent you carry? Is your scent drawing people to God or it is repelling them? Has the intimidation from hell and its agents caused you to mask your scent? God saved us so we can be a scent of life (Christ) to those who are being saved and a scent of death to those that are rejecting Him. Do understand that whether it is life or death, it is a ‘scent’ so that no man will give an excuse for going to hell. This scent should cause the unbeliever around you to give praise to your Father in Heaven even if they do not agree with you. The act of them giving your Father in Heaven praise for your life depicts that they have come in contact with life but they chose death. Thus, your scent to such is death. This is why in every generation God plants His godly people that carry this scent in order to lead as many back to the Lord. Daniel and his friends carried this scent such that kings Nebuchadnezzar and Darius and many others in that generation came to the realization that the God of Daniel is the true God. The lives of Paul and Silas drew so many to the Lord as did so many that had gone before and came after them.
Beloved, not just the drawing near of the close of the year but equally as the coming of the Lord draws ever closer, it is time to truly ascertain if you are truly carrying the scent. If sin is still prancing around you then something is wrong with your scent. If you are married, and sin and wickedness runs amok in your home and you are unable to stand against it, something is indeed wrong with your scent. Don’t let us be like Martha that Christ rebuked but still continued in her supposed walk with the Lord; such is in danger of hearing at the end of life the following grave and deadly words: “Then I will announce to them, I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!” (Matthew 7:23). Martha refused to acknowledge and deal with the situation of her life that was exposed to her by the Lord. Is God showing you an area of your life that is stinking and you are arguing with Him? Don’t! See your life through His eyes (His Word) and adjust accordingly so you can truly spread the scent of the life of Jesus Christ. God bless you.

The Quarry Site Experience

Have you ever visited a quarry site and considered the process the rocks are subjected to before they become dressed stones to be used? If the stones could talk they will have a story to tell about their experiences.  As children of God we go through diverse experiences and we wonder if we will indeed survive them. Sometimes we wonder why our gracious and compassionate Father would allow such to befall us considering who we are in Him and what we are doing in His vineyard.  The Scripture that should readily come to our minds in such circumstances is God’s assurance when He said: “I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire and the flame will not burn you ” (Isaiah 43:2). This Scripture assures us that through the experiences of flames and waters, God is always by our side to see us through.  Thus, it is necessary for us to go through the...

But You Did Not Learn Christ In This Way

I remember meeting a man of God in his office after the Sunday Services in his Church. I, like many others that day needed a few minutes with him. I was there at the instruction of the LORD to deliver a message. As we were talking, one of his Church workers came in and gave him a note. His face lit up, and he was very excited. I saw that there were sets of numbers written. I thought the numbers represented those who gave their lives to Christ, because many came out during the Altar Call to give and rededicate their lives to the LORD Jesus Christ. No! Apparently, they represent the number of people in attendance at each of the three services with the corresponding money collections realised.         They were not concerned about the souls that came out hungry for God! I was saddened by their excitement. They were not excited about the souls that came into the Kingdom of God; rather, they were rejoicing about their egos, ranks and bank a...

...And His Name Was Nabal

We live in a world that has short-term memory. The memory life span of many is so short, that mistakes and circumstances that brought them sorrow are repeated without a thought to the fact that what they are doing they had done before with dire consequences. As a result of this attitude, many have grown more wilful towards the things of God. One of the signs of the end time, according to 2 Timothy 3, is people being ungrateful. Being ungrateful means not showing gratitude for help, gifts or kindness they received; a feeling of entitlement to whatever they think they have received.         Being ungrateful is a state of mind that believes that the good things that happen to them is deserving, and they do not see any reason to be thankful for them. So was the case of a man named Nabal (which means 'Fool') in the Bible. He was a harsh and evil man in his dealings, yet a very wealthy man in the region he lived in. From the account of his l...
