The Character Of The New Man

If as New Men in Christ, we have taken off our former way of life that is corrupted by evil desires, it is of paramount importance that we develop the character that is created in the likeness, righteousness and purity of God. Our Lord Jesus Christ enjoins us as chosen, holy and loved ones of God to put on heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Loving and forgiving one another as the Lord Jesus Christ has forgiven us. This character according to our Lord in John 15 is what will set us apart from the rest of the world. To have this God-like character we must remain, abide and joined to Him. The character profile of the New Man must be like that of God and is evidenced in the man’s bearing of fruits that lasts for all eternity. Friend, the only way we can do this effectively is to remain attached to Jesus, there is no shortcut. Only then can nourishment from the True Vine (Jesus Christ) flow into us and we will bear good fruits that will last. Galatians 5:22-23 enumerates the fruits that we must produce. These we can only do when we are not only planted but rooted deeply in Truth which is Christ Himself. Without this, the fruiting of the New Man will be compromised. Jesus said we will know the Truth and the Truth will set us free from fruitlessness and sin if we continue in His teachings. One major thing we saw with the character of Christ is that He was humble, without which He would not have gone to the Cross. This attitude of humility we must have in order to bear lasting fruits. The Bible tells us in James 4:6 that He gives grace to the humble. Thus, we can surmise that if Truth is the bedrock of the fruits of the Spirit then humility is the stalk that holds or bears the fruits. As we remain rooted in Him (Truth), submitting totally in humility then, the fruits enumerated in Galatians 5:22-23 and Colossians 3:12-14 will be our character and will be evidenced to all. A life that is not based on the Truth and the stalk is not humility will operate in the flesh and will only produce fruits that will lead to death. No wonder the Bible tells us in Galatians 5:24, that those who belong to Jesus Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. The goal of the New Man in Christ is to walk not only in the power of the Kingdom but the Character as well. Submit totally to Him and the grace to have this character will be released to you in Jesus Christ name.
