Abraham dug a well in Genesis 21:25-34 and he made a covenant with Ahimelech the ruler of the land that the well is legitimately his and cannot be taken over at will by the inhabitants of the land. However, by the time we got to Genesis 26:17-22, we saw the Philistines not only claiming ownership of the well but pouring earth into it as well. Friend, this is the state of the lives of so many children of God and the Lord is not pleased with it. When they came to the Lord, He put a seal of ownership on them, the seal being the Holy Spirit. This showed that they belong to Him and have been bought at a price and are now citizens of His Kingdom. It is equally to tell the Kingdom of darkness that the said man is the property of Jehovah, God Most High. However, an interruption occurred in the lives of so many! Galatians 5:7 says: “You were running well. Who prevented you from obeying the truth?” This presupposes that the interruption could have been prevented by the Galatians! Just like the well Abraham dug, his son Isaac was prevented from drawing water from it as earth was poured into the well to contaminate and eventually stop the water from flowing. The Bible clearly states in John 7:38 that those that believe in the Lord Jesus Christ will have streams of living waters flowing from deep within them. How is the water that is flowing from within you? Is it still fresh or it has become contaminated? Can you still draw water from the well at all? Who could have done such a wicked thing? Friend, the enemy without and within did this. There is a need to get to the root of the problem so as to solve it once and for all. Several times when we join ourselves to companies and associations we have no business joining, they pour earth into the river of flowing water within us as it was in the case of King Jehoshaphat and Ahab in 1Kings 22, it took the grace of God for Jehoshaphat to be delivered from the hands of the enemy. However the most dangerous of the pollutant is the earth from within. The earth of hypocrisy, falsehood, deceit, lie, bitterness, evil thoughts, pride, arrogance, selfishness, jealousy, lust, selfish ambition, rage, anger and the likes are earth from within that pollutes and eventually stops the flow of the living waters in a man. Friend, when a physical well is made, if it is not walled within, earth from within will eventually pollute and stop the flow of the fresh water. Therefore, there is a need to wall our hearts with the word of God so as to forestall seepage from contaminating the water. No wonder the Bible says we should guard our hearts with all diligence. Friend walling your heart with the word of God on a daily basis is what we must do, not a one off operation. We must endeavor to be careful to do on a daily basis what is written in the Word of God. As we do this, our hearts are fortified against any internal or external seepage.
Have you ever visited a quarry site and considered the process the rocks are subjected to before they become dressed stones to be used? If the stones could talk they will have a story to tell about their experiences. As children of God we go through diverse experiences and we wonder if we will indeed survive them. Sometimes we wonder why our gracious and compassionate Father would allow such to befall us considering who we are in Him and what we are doing in His vineyard. The Scripture that should readily come to our minds in such circumstances is God’s assurance when He said: “I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire and the flame will not burn you ” (Isaiah 43:2). This Scripture assures us that through the experiences of flames and waters, God is always by our side to see us through. Thus, it is necessary for us to go through the...
