There was a young man in the scriptures that
the world may have turned several times and must have left him more confused
than ever, each time it turns. When he was just five years old, the news of his father’s
death reached his nurse and she picked him up and ran. In the process he fell
and became crippled in his feet. This young man was born to a royal family and
his father was the heir to the throne, however in one day his father and
grandfather (the king) both died and the sheltered life he once knew came to an
abrupt halt. This is the tragic story of Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan and
grandson of king Saul of Israel. We may relate to the story of this young man
that lived a tragic life that he had no hand in causing. A well ordered life turned
upside down by an act of defiance that cost not just the protagonist’s life but
all those that had any affiliations with him. You are serving the Lord and you
make every effort to follow Him diligently, but it looks like the more you try,
the more things turn upside down in your life. It is a struggle to survive
despite your best efforts. You have prayed fasted and sowed seeds but to no
avail. Unfortunately, because of some teachings you had heard, you believe
something is grossly wrong with you (just like Mephibosheth that equated himself with a dog); and so you have gone from one deliverance
meeting to the other with no results. The Bible says in 2Samuel 9:1 “David
asked, ‘Is there anyone remaining from Saul’s family I can show kindness to
because of Jonathan?’” Friend, the Lord is set to show kindness to you not
because of your works of righteousness but because of His mercy. He says in
Isaiah 43:18-19, 21 “Do not remember the past events, pay no attention to
things of old. Look I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do
you not see it? Indeed I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the
desert…the people I formed for Myself will declare My praise.” It does not
matter the pain or how long you have been in it, the Lord says, the time to
favor you has come, see it, believe it, declare it and walk in it. We don’t know
how long David was on the throne, before he remembered to show kindness to
someone in Saul’s house because of Jonathan his friend. The bottom line is
that, at the appointed time, God remembered Mephibosheth and He rose through
David to show him kindness. Friend, don’t lose your confidence in God, remain
strong in Him, for your time of elevation has come! God declared in 2
Chronicles 16:9 that “…the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to show
Himself strong for those whose hearts are completely His.” Don’t be like the
men that said in Malachi 3:14-15 that it was futile to serve the Lord. God is
saying the time to show you kindness has come and He will yet again show the
difference between those that serve Him and those that don’t. If you stand and
not waiver in your faith, you too will declare like the Psalmist in Psalm 126:1-2a
“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like men who dream. Our mouths
were filled with laughter then and our tongues with shouts of joy…” Praise the
Lord! God bless you.
Have you ever visited a quarry site and considered the process the rocks are subjected to before they become dressed stones to be used? If the stones could talk they will have a story to tell about their experiences. As children of God we go through diverse experiences and we wonder if we will indeed survive them. Sometimes we wonder why our gracious and compassionate Father would allow such to befall us considering who we are in Him and what we are doing in His vineyard. The Scripture that should readily come to our minds in such circumstances is God’s assurance when He said: “I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire and the flame will not burn you ” (Isaiah 43:2). This Scripture assures us that through the experiences of flames and waters, God is always by our side to see us through. Thus, it is necessary for us to go through the...
