Greater Works

There is a groaning around the world because of unrest, the rate of corruption and uncertainty that pervades the political, economic and social well-being of nations. With the high rate of intolerance, so many are questioning the foundation of their beliefs, values and allegiances. No matter how much of the questioning we do, the fault for all these debacles cannot be laid anywhere else than firmly at the feet of the people: Because leadership, policies, rules and regulations have not being able to change the attitudes of the majority of the people to aspire for a greater living devoid of religious intolerance, bickering and corruption. Despite how much technology is hyped, mankind is still searching for leaders that will truly lead them by example so they could emulate. Where then is the hope of mankind? The only group of people that can provide such leadership example is the Church of Christ, the Body of the Living God! There is a grace upon the Church to carry this upon her shoulders but alas, the same problems are found within the Body. We have been unable to step in as the sons of God the world is waiting for because we are yet to remove the log from our own eyes (Matthew 7:1-6) but are quick to see the speck in others eyes. Friend, there is so much work to be done and a lot if not all are dependent on the sons of God manifesting as such. We have what it takes to carry out this task if only we will believe and enter into it: “I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these because I go to My Father” (John 14:12, AMP). We have always jumped to the conclusion that the greater works are to do greater miracles than Jesus did. Hello! Look around you, the world is becoming a dangerous place to live in and increasingly getting nonchalant in the face of great miracles.

Miracles are good and are great signs that God is with His people. But let’s look at the mandate of the Lord again: Greater Works! Apostle Peter by the Holy Spirit aptly summarizes the works of Christ as: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and curing all who were under the tyranny of the devil because God was with Him” (Acts 10:38). The world is being terrorized by the devil through sin. Our mandate is to go about doing good by preaching the message of repentance, turning the hearts of the people from godless living to the Living God. This message when preached truthfully has the power to change a man’s character, attitude and deliver him completely from the dungeons of darkness. John the Baptist did not do one miracle except to preach this message and people’s hearts (from the street to the palace) turned to God – Jesus Christ called him the greatest of those born of a woman! The Apostles were said to have turned the world upside down with their teachings of repentance (Acts 17:6) and God honored His word with miracles as well. Friend, the greater works God intends for us to do is to teach and inspire the people to leave their sinful lives, grow in godly character and attitudes by producing fruit worthy of the Kingdom of God. To encourage everyone to walk with God on a daily basis! Miracles are great but the fruits will remain on earth; but what is eternal is the change in the character and attitudes of the people. This is the good we must strive to do as sons of God and is the change the world sorely needs. Friend, it is time to arise to live lives that are worthy of the Kingdom and to teach same to the people around us. Will it not be glorious if on that day in Heaven, we are surrounded by family, friends, neighbors and countrymen? The greater works is indeed to preach the gospel and live the gospel. God bless you.
