How Sound Is Your Doctrine?

We live in a world that is fast paced with all conveniences at our finger tips. Things are invented in such spate that the undiscerning may lose focus from the true life. As a result of all these advances in technology, many are wont to believe that God may have either lowered His standards or changed them completely. This thinking is what has fueled the gay, abortion and new rules of marriage debates. Some believe that they can now dictate to God on what is right and what is acceptable based on these advances. Certain verses in Scriptures are now twisted to form basis for evil and wicked doctrines that negate the very existence of God! Concerning this time and situation, Jesus Christ Himself warned us: “Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold” (Matthew 24:11-12). Looking at the happenings within the Body of Christ, the love of many for the Lord is not as it should be. This is not strange; we are told that when we see this happening, we should understand that the return of our Lord Jesus Christ is Near! Since we are living in the times now, His return is no longer Near but Here! Friend, this piece is not written to pass judgment on who is right or wrong but for us to take a closer look at our doctrines again. How sound is your doctrine? Friend, it is time for us to wake up and adjust our minds and hearts. God commended the sons of Rechab for keeping true to the teachings of their father (Jeremiah 35) who was human; God likewise would want us to obey Him no matter what because He is God. The sons of Rechab did not jettison their father’s instructions because events had overtaken it or it’s been a long time the instruction was given. They obeyed because they were completely loyal to him. Friend, our obedience to God must be borne out of loyalty and love. All of the ‘techy’ things we celebrate today will disappear and we will be left standing face to face with Him. So that we do not stutter when questions are asked, we must begin to readdress our minds and heart: “Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you” (1Timothy 4:16). God bless you as you reassess your heart!
