Don’t Give Up!

Life is a constant battle. From the moment we drew our first breath to when we will draw our last, we are in a war! A young man told me a couple of days ago that he was tired of the fight and was thinking of ending it. ‘Why should life always be a battle’, he asked. He asked further, ‘if it all ends in death, why not quicken it along and end it all, once and for all?’ This is an extremely faulty logic peddled by the devil. Inasmuch as this present life is a constant battle in an unending war, eternity on the other hand, is based on the outcome of the war fought while in the flesh! It is then prudent to be mindful how we fight here. Why, you may ask.        From Genesis chapter 3, the battle line was drawn between man and the serpent: “I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head and you will strike his heel” (Genesis 3:15).And Revelation 12 made it more clear why the battle is more fierce for the sons of God: “So the…

St Valentine's Day Celebration: Begging The Question!

A post once appeared on a Christian website which mirrors the mood of the moment among so many Christians: “Does it matter that an ancient festival used to worship pagan gods and promote fertility was adopted by the Church and used to worship the God of the Bible? Does God really care what customs are used to worship and honor Him or what holidays we celebrate?” So many argue that since the end result of these festivals is to worship God, then, the purpose has been achieved. Such forget that our God is a God of order. All He had done or ever permitted to be done had been according to divine order. In the Bible, we see how God Himself planned several feasts or celebrations for His own people either as memorials of what He had done or as a prophetic picture of what He will do. In all of these Scriptures, there was no where that we were mandated by Him to set aside a day or days in honor of a man no matter how diligent the person was, only God rewards such: “Now without faith it is impos…

Look To Your Father

A young brother was very bitter and angry that he wasn’t getting what he asked for from his family. He believed they owed him, and they must go out of their way to make sure he was comfortable. His argument was that his late parents were good to them so they needed to show gratitude by helping him out of his predicament. When we talked, I asked him if he had taken the matter to his Father. His earthly ‘fathers’ and those that ought to help him may have failed but his heavenly Father will not. His argument, like most of us, is that God will not come down to help us, He will use people. True! But we forget that He is the One that would command the people to help us. Psalm 104 tells us that without God nothing in creation will get its sustenance, including people. If the Lord closes His hands or hides His face from His creation, they will wither and die. Man at his best is but a man! Meaning his reach is limited, and if not permitted by the Conductor of the Universe to help you, h…

Raise A Cry!

“In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Wilderness of Judea and saying, ‘Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near!’…John himself had a camel-hair garment with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey” (Matthew 3:1-2,4).  A voice in the wilderness was crying out for men to turn from their evil ways. Men heard this voice and their hearts melted. The question that comes to my mind whenever I read this account is, can someone in our time, dressed the way John the Baptist was dressed be listened to today? Sadly, when people these days speak, their physical appearance most of the time determine if they will be listened to or not. No wonder we hear so many messages from the pulpit with the mantra: ‘Dress the way you want to be addressed’! In this age of technology, some will even go as far as checking across various social platforms to see if the person standing before them is worth listening to. By so doing, they get distracted…

Stay Focused

Last year was quite a turbulent one for quite a number of people. I remember someone telling me, they couldn’t just wait for the year to end; with the hope that the end of year will bring about the end of the many problems she was facing at the time. Running into her a couple of days ago, she remarked she hoped the New Year will be better even though she is still battling the same problems. I told her, emphatically and assuredly that it will be a much better year. Better, for as many that will run in and remain under the Shadow of the Almighty: “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected” (Proverbs 18:10). King David understood what this meant. To run in and remain means we must be loyal, and remain so, to the Lord. When we are loyal to the Lord, He in turn is loyal to us: “He is a tower of salvation to His king; He shows loyalty to His anointed, to David and his descendants forever” (2Samuel 22:51). Beloved, perhaps you have been serving a…

A Call To The Philly Christians

As the years pile on each other, the change in environment, politics and the ‘evolution’ in the ‘social stratosphere’ across the globe, one can safely conclude that the earth is positioning itself for something extraordinary to happen. Environmentalists on one hand, argue that the earth needs saving as its resources are depleting and its protective shield failing. It is clear that the earth is moving towards a certain end. It is as if the earth is in labor and about to give birth! As children of God, as we see these signs happening around us, instead of being afraid or delving further into sin by joining the confused fray, we ought to take a step back and assess our stand as it affects where we would spend eternity. Beloved, eternity is certain! This world is winding down, and the decision of where we would spend eternity is made in the land of the living. Thus, the prayers and wishes for the dead do not change the eternal destination the dead person chose while alive!        For t…
